Our team at silked caught up with Tonya and got a chance to ask her a few inspiring questions:

1. FAVORITE SELF-CARE TIP?

As a woman in my 40’s I think that everything related to self-care these days is connected to 2 things: Sleep & Stress Reduction. I realize now that my immune system, my mood, my energy, and my ability to show patience as a Mother are all better when these 2 things are in sync. So my best self-care tip would be to carve out time each day to do something that you love that reduces stress, and to try to get 8 hours of sleep a night if at all possible (much easier said than done of course). When I feel stressed, I remove myself for a moment to take a walk alone or I read in a quiet room. I practice meditation when I can and I try to carve out time each day to do something that makes me happy (these days that includes thinking of fun home decor, lifestyle/entertainment ideas, recipes, etc. for my new Insta page I started just over 3 months ago when Covid hit and I was quarantined at home with 2 teen boys after our move to a brand new city).

2. YOUR BIGGEST INSPIRATION TO DATE AND WHY?

My biggest inspiration is my husband of nearly 21 years. I met him as a young girl when we attended the same high school in a small town. He came from nothing and had such big dreams. He worked so incredibly hard to put himself through college and law school. He has been a dedicated husband and amazing father to our 2 children, all while working so hard to accomplish his dreams and provide a good life for our family. He is now a successful CEO of his own finance firm and with that comes a lot of responsibility and very little time for himself. He somehow finds the time to still coach our sons’ sports teams, drive them everywhere to their tournaments, be a dedicated husband, and work out to stay healthy and fit in his 40’s – all of these things he does without ever complaining and with very little sleep. I try to learn from him when I find myself complaining about something. He never accepts that things can’t be done. He always looks for ways it ‘can’ be done. This is inspiring to me.

3. ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE WITH OTHERS?

We live in a world of too much comparison these days with the internet and social media. We need to embrace our individuality. I’m almost 46 years old and it’s finally so clear to me. I like ME. I don’t want to change anything about me because my imperfections and differences make me the unique individual I am. We are all so different. We all have strengths and we all have weaknesses. No one is perfect and we all have flaws. We need to all stop trying to be like anyone other than the perfectly flawed person we already are.

4. WHAT IS YOUR SECRET PASSION?

People who know me know I love a good Rom-Com, but not everyone knows I’m actually quite obsessed with Hallmark movies – especially at Christmas time. Anytime I visit a little village or small town I love I find myself saying “It should be in a Hallmark movie.” I’ve been a romantic dreamer ever since I was a little girl. My 2 teen boys and husband do not share in my love of these movies at home so I try to steal a few moment to myself after everyone is fast asleep. This actually falls back into my stress reduction category from above. We all need our own time to do whatever it is that makes us feel Joy – especially after this sad, strange, unpredictable, and unforgettable 2020 we’ve all had.

Silked is so grateful that we continue to be lifted up by such an amazing tribe of women that support us and would like to thank Tonya for taking the timeout to chat with us!

STAY LOVING!

Love,
Sandra and Phoenix
